About Basil Oil

Basil essential oil is produced from fresh basil leaves by steam distillation. Primary compounds — linalool, methyl chavicol (estragole) and eugenol — vary significantly by chemotype. The European chemotype is linalool-dominant with sweet, floral character; the tropical Indian chemotype is methyl chavicol-dominant with a more spicy, anise-like character. Tulsi oil has a eugenol-dominant profile.
