About Licorice Root

Licorice root (Mulethi / Glycyrrhiza glabra) is one of the world's most ancient medicines — used in ancient Egypt, Greece, Rome and China for over 4,000 years. Glycyrrhizin — the primary compound — is 50x sweeter than sucrose. In Ayurveda, mulethi is a key herb in respiratory preparations and is used as a natural sweetener and throat soother.
