About Lotus
The lotus (Nelumbo nucifera) is India's national flower and one of the most spiritually significant plants in both Hinduism and Buddhism. In Ayurveda, every part of the lotus is used — the seeds (kamal gatta), stamens (keshar), leaves, root (lotus root) and petals. The seeds are particularly valued as a heart tonic and nervine.
Health Benefits
- Seeds contain nuciferine — a compound with heart-tonic and sedative properties
- Nelumboside and other flavonoids provide antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activity
- Seeds are a nutritious food source — rich in protein, minerals and starch
- Petals used in traditional Ayurveda for skin health and rejuvenation
Culinary & Industrial Uses
- Lotus seed (kamal gatta) in Indian sweets, kheer and makhana preparations
- Lotus root as a nutritious vegetable in Asian cuisine globally
- Lotus petal tea in wellness and herbal beverage formulations
- Ayurvedic formulations for heart health and nerve support
Processing & Grades
Seeds, roots and petals processed separately. Seeds dried and available whole or powdered. Root dehydrated and available as slices or powder. Petals shade-dried for herbal tea use.
