About Star Anise
One of the most visually striking spices in the world — its perfect eight-pointed star shape is unmistakable. India's Northeastern states produce this spice naturally. Critically, it is the primary source of shikimic acid — the essential starting material for Tamiflu (oseltamivir), causing global shortages during the 2005 bird flu outbreak.
Health Benefits
- Trans-anethole demonstrates anti-inflammatory and antifungal properties
- Shikimic acid is the precursor for Tamiflu (oseltamivir) production for flu treatment
- Antioxidant and antibacterial properties against multiple pathogens
- Traditional use in Ayurveda for digestive and respiratory support
Culinary & Industrial Uses
- Chinese five-spice powder — one of the five essential spices
- Vietnamese pho broth — imparts characteristic sweet depth
- Indian biryani and Mughlai preparations for aromatic depth
- Anise-flavoured spirits globally
Processing & Grades
Dried to uniform brown colour. Graded by whole star quality: whole, broken, seeds. Essential oil (anethole content minimum 86%) available. Northeast India origin certificate provided.
